Chicago is my favorite city in the Midwest! With a growing population of trendy bars, restaurants & shops, there’s no shortage of adventures to be had.
I’d give Chicago a B+ on the dog-friendliness scale - only because due to the weather, many dog-friendly patios are closed :(. We’ve really enjoyed our warmer visits, especially the murals!
Scroll down for my 11 favorite places to eat, drink and hang in Chicago.
WHAT TO DO:
Montrose Dog Beach - a bit far from downtown but SO worth the trek - it’s the BEST dog beach in Chicago! Every dog who’s any dog goes here. So be forewarned, in the summer it will be packed! Although it’s much less crowded than the beaches downtown and has plenty of room for your pup to run around.
Lakefront Trail - all along the water there’s a walking and biking path for you to enjoy. Along the path there are restaurants, bars and bike pickup locations. It’s basically dog heaven
Go on a mural crawl! Using the Google Map below, take yourself on a mural crawl! Pro tip: the murals of Chicago are quite dispersed, so make sure you’ve got some sort of transportation lined up. We used the Divvy bikes to get around (and used the K9SportSack for Watson of course)!
Hang on the 606 - the 606 is an above ground elevated walking & biking trail that runs through Wicker Park and Logan Square (aka the newly gentrified hip AF neighborhoods where most of the best coffee shops, bars, and restaurants are). Pro tip: stop at Ipsento Coffee while you’re walking along the path: they have a patio overlooking the path with a MASSIVE mural and sometimes some live music.
WHERE TO EAT:
Parlor Pizza - delicious pizza & beer with not just one but TWO murals! Parlor Pizza is always packed, and rightfully so. If that didn’t sell you, there’s a bloody mary bar for brunch [dog friendly]
Parsons Chicken & Fish - they have the bestttttt fried chicken and the cutest patio. It’s a big afternoon hangout spot in the summer, and an ice rink in the winter. Don’t bring your pup in the winter though, haha.
Big Star - their website touts “Tacos, Whiskey & Honkey Tonk” so who wouldn’t like that? We sure do :). Dog friendly patio with an enormous whiskey selection makes this a great spot to hang. Both locations are dog friendly too!
WHERE TO DRINK:
St. Lou’s - really fun indoor outdoor bar in the West Loop! They have a killer bar food menu & my favorite type of rose
Park & Field - inspired by a vintage sports club, Park & Field has a large patio filled with bocce ball courts and other games. With fire pits to help parlay Chicago patio season all the way from spring to fall, this is the perfect Logan Square outing with your pup!
Dry Hop - this is technically a brewery so putting in the drink section, but Dry Hop’s food is DELICIOUS too! Great all around spot for your pooch on the patio.
Lo Rez brewing - I’m always partial to a spot where dogs are allowed inside and outside, and you need to look no further than Lo Rez for that! Rotating taps and brewery vibes make this the perfect spot to drink with your pup.
